Linear Accelerator Shielding : Thirty Years Beyond NCRP 49
نویسنده
چکیده
The purpose of this review is to discuss particular shielding problems related to highenergy machines that are not covered in NCRP report No. 49. These include calculating the dose at the end of a maze due to neutrons and capture rays, consideration of high-energy direct-shielded doors, and laminated primary shielding. The impact of special procedures such as IMRT, TBI, and SRS will also be discussed.

Treatment vault shielding for a flattening filter-free medical linear accelerator.
The requirements for shielding a treatment vault with a Varian Clinac 2100 medical linear accelerator operated both with and without the flattening filter were assessed. Basic shielding parameters, such as primary beam tenth-value layers (TVLs), patient scatter fractions, and wall scatter fractions, were calculated using Monte Carlo simulations of 6, 10 and 18 MV beams. Relative integral target...

متن کاملShielding evaluation of a typical radiography department: a comparison between NCRP reports No.49 and 147
Background: Designing and shielding of an appropriate radiography room has been one of the major concerns of radiation scientists since the first decade after the invention of X-rays. Recently, report No.147 of National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) has been published. In this study the researchers have investigated the effect of new report recommendation on primary an...
متن کاملA revised schema for performing diagnostic x-ray shielding calculations.
This paper presents a method for performing diagnostic x-ray shielding calculations which is somewhat different than that given in NCRP Report No. 49. The method computes exposure at the location to be shielded from multiple sources of radiation in the room and accounts for differences in transmission characteristics of leakage and primary/scatter radiation. Also discussed in the paper is a met...
متن کاملRadiation therapy vault shielding calculational methods when IMRT and TBI procedures contribute
The additional intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and total body irradiation (TBI) to conventional treatment clinical treatment procedures can significantly increase the contribution of accelerator head leakage radiation. Previously recommended procedures by the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) for vault design, specifically calculations of primary and ...
